The Legendary Bobby Wellins
Thank you to everyone, especially our customers - new and old - who paid a visit to 'Bauhaus Distribution' on the occasion of its 2nd appearance at Messe Frankfurt, we hope you found it as enjoyable as we did. It was a busy and exciting time for bauhaus, following a feverish year of activity, of expansion and augmentation of the brand, and marking a further, important step in our company's growth.
D36 played host to many people who looked at, admired and blew the horns, and who kept us company for a while - though quite possibly, it was not our company that drew them.
We are honoured and somewhat awed by the joining of our first major endorsee - Bobby Wellins - who has been impressing critics and inspiring players for over 50 years:
"His influence and importance to several generations of British jazz musicians and improvisers is obvious just by checking out how many of them mention him as either an influence, collaborator, teacher -- or all three."
Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
Bobby was on hand to talk and play for slightly stunned visitors. The combination of Bobby Wellins and (we like to think) the saxophones drew some legendary talent: Ernie Watts appeared, unprompted and wonderful, and played various horns (he liked the new dark lacquer M2) for over half an hour.
Tony Kofi, (World Saxophone Quartet, Ornette Coleman) also blew us away - he was impressed with the TM2-E, unlacquered tenor Earth saxophone and compared it to "having your cake and eating it", for want of a better phrase - or indeed the phrase that he actually used! He also tried a prototype based on the AS-PD, but with a larger bell and real gold-plate finish - the prototype is the first to boast our new distinctive bell to body brace logo. Pictures soon.
We felt Musikmesse 2011 was a great experience in terms of the contacts we created and the number of people who were able to pick-up, hold and play the Bauhaus horns. We felt that Bauhaus more than held its own, even punched above its weight in a highly competitive sphere of the music industry. We received valuable, positive input from players and prospective buyers, and achieved new links with International distributors in New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Spain, Portugal and the UAE.
It was a great show... so now the hard graft... Thank you to everyone for making this a truly memorable and successful show - please have a look at the pictures and videos.
